location examples and video concept

example 3
example 2 example 1

Name of Band - The Factory
Genre - indie/alternative rock band.

Star image – Performer supposed to relate to the audience by being relatively ordinary teenaged boys (which our video reflects. our video.
Target audience - teenagers/young adults male and female.
Track Choice - Arctic Monkeys – Fluorescent Adolescent

Concept for video
. following of the bands rise to fame from playing in there messy bedroom (which will become more sophisticatedly missy EG cider bottles into Champaign bottles in stop motion) then when the band have made it they will change location by moving into a large studio to symbolise the bands fame

Represents ‘making it big’ and how far they have come.

Our pitch also focuses on ‘lad’ culture and the unity of the band (being un manufactured and a proper performance band who have been talent spotted together.

We would like to use stop motion similar to : Passion Pit - Sleepy Head (Stop Motion) as I have uploaded the video on a post below for an example.

Star Image
Costume we want the bands image to be very mix and match and not manufactured by all wearing the same kind of outfits. An example of this is buttoned up polo shirts, buttoned up Ben shaman shirts, skinny jeans, adidas trainers, Chelsea boots ,slogan t shirts etc… our aim is to have a band member that appeals to almost every type of teenager resulting in a larger fan base as there will be some one everybody can relate to (abit like the concept of the spice girls, yet more modern.

location

our first location is to have a very messy teenagers bedroom which consists of piled up socks fag butts, cider bottles, poster of there favourite band on the wall etc.. in the first minute the bedroom will pile up with teenage mess, but in the second minuet the mess will become rich expensive mess for example cider bottles turn to Champaign, cigarettes to cigars, the lamp shade to a chandelier and the band will get more instruments hung up around the balls and instead of a poster of there favoret band there will be a picture of them on the wall. . Then finally when the band have really made it big they will walk out of the transformed bedroom into a big lit studio and begin to play. All of our filming will be on sets in the studio at hurtwood.the whole concept of the idea is to link in to the relation to the audience by saying and showing that they started off ordinary just like there fans.

The Maccabees - Love You Better
The projected effect

Passion Pit - Sleepy Head (Stop Motion)
The stop motion aspect

The Kooks - Shine on

Feedback

There is plenty of good material here as a starting point, Chloe, though you have missed one vital element - the identification of your hypothetical act and the key details of their marketing strategy. The research could then be more focussed on similar star images, as wll as audience and institutional contexts.

music video example -arctic monkeys

Arctic monkeys brain storm

This video hasn’t got much of what we want in out video but the studio the bedroom turns into is what we would like for ours.

music video example -foals

The foals balloons

This is exactly how we want our bedroom to look in our treatment video and I think it woks really well even if it is a bit odd. It is a good example for us as the band are similar as well and the song. If I had to show and example of our idea this would be it without the dancers.

music video example -stop motion

sleepyhead

This video is done by an armature film company and is a stop start motion picture. Although this isn’t the original video for this song it is what we want to use in some on our treatment idea for our chosen song.

Image examples for our band

The ordinary boys have the same British charm about them as we want to use and also have the interesting mix of styles between band members

These are the foals and there mix of style between the different band members makes then interesting which we have tried to emulate. There music is also similar to that of our song

Mgmt are similar because they are young, teenaged and vibrant which is the same image we want our band to have. The song time to pretend also raises some of the issues that are raised in our song and they effectively have the same meaning about growing up

these are the kooks and they have the same sort of image as we want to create for our band because they are teenaged and all have diferent styles

Websites such as myspace are where these bands are usually found but also facebook and youtube to. When bands record them selves and put it on theses and put it on these websites then record companies can spot for fresh non manufactured talent.

Treatment idea 3

Name of band = passion pit

Song name = sleepyhead

Star image of band set up by record company

the image of the band set up by the record company is one of being very up beat, and more of a performer than a star image as you can tell from watching the music video to sleepyhead because it is quite a plain but interesting video which shows just the lead singers face singing on a revolving cube. In the video you don’t see any of the over bands faces and only brief flashes of the singers. This shows the audience that the care more about the way there music and performance sounds than they do about the way they look, which makes them more of performers this means that they will appeal more to an older audience than a young teenaged one which lean more towards the stars which have a perfect image but not necessarily a perfect sound.

I would say the band were a rave indie festival type but they are hard to categorise.

My treatment idea

my treatment idea for the song is to have a big group of people having a huge pillow fight in the studio with strobe lights flashing and there will be close ups and mid shots of the pillows being hit to the beat. Then there will be Crain shots showing the whole room and crowed of people and then in the middle there will be the band performing on an old iron bed so they will be raised up above the crowed. There will also be shots of the band on there own in the empty room covered in feathers. I chose this idea because I think it reflects the style of the band and there star image. The song is very energetic and I think the video reflects this.

music video treatment idea 2

Song name = stuck in the middle with you
Artist/band = strealers wheels

Star image of artist/band =
The song is an old one and so the bands image is obviously set up for that era of fashion and music. Their image however is very much about the performance aspect of music and not all about there image. The image they do seem to portray however is a very fun care free band who don’t take them selves to seriously and like to be upbeat which is reflected in the song and in the music video for the song which portrays a very weird and wacky diner party the band are having with clowns and people in fancy dress. Which shows us the band don’t take them selves to seriously.

My treatment idea=
My treatment idea for the video is having a band playing the song on a stage in a small bar/club dark underground so it has a seedy feel to the place. On the dace floor there will be people dancing in fancy dress with each other. And having a focus on a couple dancing in the middle of the floor with a group of people on ether side watching. There will also be scenes of the group of people playing musical chars. and the same two get stuck together at the end. There will be dancing on tables and chars and the video will be filmed from all angles for example Crain shots of the dancers close ups of there feet mid shots etc.. I chose to do this video because I think it would be stil a fun element kept in with the fancy dress which is reflected in the previous video but yet the location is different and seedy which brings in a dark element to the song which I think a lot of people see it as after the song resavwar dogs.

music video treatment idea 1

Song name = setting sun
Artist/band = howling bells

Star image of artist/band =
The star image of the band is a folk type one and they also have a very real and raw hoarer about them and there talent reflects that. The video for the track is simply the band performing on stage with female dancers dressed in traditional Indian dress, dancing about the stage where the band is performing. Having a video which shows the band performing makes the band real and more about there performance than there image. And that’s my immediate opinion of the band when I watch the video is that they are a very real band, who are all about there performance.

My treatment idea=
My treatment idea is to set the video in the country side on a very sunny day, shot between a corn field and a young woodland. the video will feature a boy and a girl together in the countryside they will be running about the fields and woods in very pure light clothing bear foot they will also lay in the field looking up at the sun and having shots of if shining on there skin making them beautiful and projecting images onto there faces. But when the night comes and darkness falls the boy leaves her and the girl is running around trying to find him trough the dark woods but he will only return when the sun rises. I chose this idea because the song is all about the setting sun and how the world revolves around the sun, so this idea show how the girls world revolves around the setting sun. the video also reflects the hippy and natural image of the band.

Introduction to advanced portfolio

Over the next 12 months, we will have to complete the following elements:
• Advanced portfolio in media (100 marks)
This will involve producing a main artifact, two ancillary artifacts and an accompanying blog containing your research, planning and evaluation materials

• Critical Perspectives in Media (100 marks)
• An exam in which we will need to show our understanding of media theory as it applies to your own product and to real media texts

• Advanced Portfolio:
• Multi-media production based in the Music Industry
• Working as a small independent production company, we will need to meet the following brief:
– A promotion package for the release of an album, to include a music promo video, together with two of the following three options:
• a website homepage for the band;
• a cover for its release on DVD;
• a magazine advertisement for the DVD.
• The deadline for production work is the end of the Autumn term (December).

• Critical Perspectives in Media:
• There are two sections to this paper:

• Section A: Theoretical Evaluation of Production (50 marks)

• Section B: Contemporary Media Issues (50 marks)

Section A: Theoretical Evaluation of Production

• Question 1a will involve analysing our own product using the following concepts:
– Digital Technology
– Creativity
– Research and planning
